Stanley Kubrick's Vietnam War drama is an odd duck that is really a mashup of two different movies. One is a dark haunting psychological thriller while the other is a wacky black comedy Both happen to feature Vietnam and both are true to Kubrick's style. But the first half is better and the second half doesn't ever fully measure up. Vincent D'Onofrio and R. Lee Ermey are as memorable as expected and the rest of the cast doesn't stand out aside from Adam Baldwin playing a gung-ho racist bumpkin.

"Full Metal Jacket" doesn't cover anything new for Vietnam War films, but is just as raw, vivid, and engrossing as past additions to the genre.

It's no surprise that a noted pacifist like Kubrick would make a film that, on its surface, seems to be an anti-war ode. Full Metal Jacket, though, is so much more - a multilayered coming of age story that touches on themes of courage, tragedy, and sacrifice, using war as a backdrop, and diving deeply and unflinchingly into its character's choices and actions. The film doesn't have many stars, but the acting is committed and true and the atrocity that Kubrick's camera captures will make you think long after the film is over.

Stanley Kubrick has proved not only that he can creat a great film, but he can take a genre and create it as his own.the film mixes drama with action and even some good humor, which is hard to do for a war film.the film is truly amazing and spectacular.the acting, the dialogue, the style, everything about this film was so amazing.I can't really go to far as to explaining how good this film is,you have to watch it to understand of how Mr.Kubrick creates a whole new film for himself and one that will live on forever as one of the greatest war movies of all time.

My favorite Kubrick film. Easily his most rewatchable and one of his most quotable. But keep in mind, I said one.
