More informative than entertaining, but "Darkest Hour" is carried by Gary Oldman's leading performance.

Joe Wright's film DARKEST HOUR is a good historical drama but it's no Dunkirk. Or if I may use an older reference, King's Speech. Remember how good that was?

Not a bad movie, but one Hollywood can make in its sleep. Churchill is an interesting, complex person, but this movie didn't even try to dig deeper than the familiar legend. Gary Oldman does fine work, but this is probably one of the least interesting roles of his career.

This film would make a great double-feature with Dunkirk. Gary Oldman gives arguably the greatest performance of his career by literally becoming Winston Churchill. This is not imitation, this is transformation, and it is a wonder to behold. The supporting cast, especially Stephane Dillane as Churchill's foil Viscount Halifax and Lily James as loyal secretary Elizabeth Layton are also quite good. But this all comes down to Oldman in a role that has been performed by many actors over the years, but if this is not the best, certainly rivals them and brings emotional heft and gravitas to one of the most important times in modern history.

Gary Oldman is unbelievable! He portrayed interestingly Winston Churchill. The wit and the humor of the character made this film worth watching. And a lot of lines to remember. :)
