For being a drama about the examination of what people perceive as mental illness, I actually found this movie enjoyable. It's neither completely dour, or upbeat. It encompasses all the voluntary emotional investments of film. The wide range of personalities on display have a diverse effect and we get an awesome lineup of young actresses to portray them. A nice blend of melancholy and humor.

Angelina Jolie was amazing. I didn't know she could act as well as she did in this movie. I liked this movie very much. We watched it in Psychology class just after learning the Rosenhan's experiment. Very interesting ending. I thought it was humorous but not too funny. I would recommend it if you like action, suspense, anguish and confusion.

Both here and in Walk the Line, Mangold directs some impressive performances, but manages to take real people's formidable stories, and make them feel like characters in a Hollywood movie script.

The plot to this film, which holds similarities to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, is a little sprawling at times and much better when it focuses on the smaller character moments. Angelina Jolie gives what is still probably her best performance ever as a defiant patient, a la Jack Nicholson.

Although this movie doesn't really portray a psychiatric hospital accurately, it's still a damn good movie.

This movie is about Susanna (Ryder) who is put in a mental institution. It is about how she becomes friends with the other patients, including the popular, and over-confident Lisa (Jolie). It is based on a true story. This is a great movie, with great performances by Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie. It is just captivating to watch, and at the end, I felt like it was their lives that had ended, rather than just the movie, as I became so attached to the characters. Definetly watch it - it is a captivating movie.

Very disturbing story but Jolie's portrayal of the anti-social Lisa Rowe is powerful. Murphy also delivers a solid performance. Ryder is weak, as always, and fails to create a character with any depth.

Surprisingly solid, albeit with a few considerable changes made from the non-fiction source work.
