The Puzo novel is brought to the screen in the definitive tale of the Mafia. A towering achievement for Coppola, who was only 32 when this film was released. Brando is ideally cast in the title role, but his is basically a supporting role. This is the story of Michael, and Pacino is excellent in conveying the transformation of the character from a geeky soldier to a tough mob boss. Caan, Duvall, and Castellano head the terrific supporting cast. Despite the nearly three-hour running time, it does not drag for a minute. The cinematography perfectly evokes the period. Rota's score is one of the most memorable in film history. The Godfather received Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor ( of which Brando refused to accept), and Best Adapted Screenplay, and has been selected for …

Frist off, I been putting off for a a couple a years writing a review for this movie because what can you about it that already hasn't been said. After recently watching the trilogy- this would make my 157 times watching the movies back to back, (YES I KEEP TRACK OF HOW MANY TIMES I WATCH A MOVIE)I finally decided am confident enough to post my review. Here it is.
As you can tell by me giving the movie an 'A' I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! Every single detail is so well directed, everything about the movie is perfect down to every single last detail. The film's masterful narrative remains gripping throughout, the directing by Francis Ford Coppola is restrained and elegant, and the acting is so incredible. Obviously Marlon Brando is iconic as the Don, but Al Pacino delivers one of his greatest …

Oscar Nominee Best supporting actor Al Pacino 4/5- Al Pacino in this is good in his leading role but I still don't fully believe his full transformation in the films from veteran to ruthless mobsters.
Oscar Nominee Best Supporting Actor James Caan 5/5- Caan as Sonny is perfect as the hot headed brother. His intensity he gives to the role is pitch perfect. All his actions and moves he makes are well done and creates a compelling character.
Oscar Nominee Best Supporting Actor Robert Duvall 3/5- Duvall is fine as Tom Hagen but the character does not require a lot to do. He is mostly a functionary character. He does perform his functions well but there are not really any scene that require his character to be important mostly he just informs people of things.

A movie you can't refuse

This is my number one favorite film, in conjuction with part II. I can't say much here, but one outstanding element is the thoroughly believable though dramatic transformation of Michael Corleone. How does one who has always steered totally clear of his family's mafia ways, is an ivy league graduate and has returned from WWII as a Marine war hero become a ruthless, murderous gangster? Coppola acheives this tragic fall with remarkable subtlety and skill. Now that his buddy Lucas is done with Star Wars, it's interesting to see that Darth Vader fell due to the same tragic flaw: desiring as much power as possible in order to keep his family safe - even if it means becoming a murderer. (The Godfather is an infinitely better film than any Star Wars flick, though I'm a sentimental fan for …

The Corleone family was known to many as a respectable family you didn't want to mess with, but with Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) growing older, he decides to make his reluctant son Michael (Al Pacino) his heir in the Best Picture winning film, "The Godfather."
People hate me for how I feel about this movie. I’ve always thought that it’s a good movie, but I’ve never thought it was interesting enough to be considered great. However, I have now seen the movie three times, and every time it seems to grow on me a little more.
This leads me to a crossroads. It’s almost as if I don’t want to like the movie as much as I do. The acting is really good. The writing could use some work in places, but the story is great. The music is a little too repetitive, but it’s a classic …
