The Godfather: Part III review

Daniel Corleone - wrote on 09/20/2011

Definitely one of the better films in the 90's based on the writing, acting and direction. I felt this could have been better if Winona Ryder didn't get sick and played Michael Corleone's daughter. Al Pacino was really convincing here, I am puzzled as to why he never won an Oscar for any role in the Godfather films. Joe Mantegna's character was a welcome addition. The film's score was still effective and plot was interesting. Still has some wonderful lines: Michael - "No! Never hate your enemies. It affects your judgment." "I'm a businessman, first and foremost. I want no conflict with anyone." Don Lucchesi - "Finance is a gun. Politics is knowing when to pull the trigger." A fitting conclusion to one of the best franchises on the big screen. The Godfather: Part III clearly …

Not the best movie, but not the worst

In all honesty, this film isn't quite as bad as people say. Its definitely not the masterpiece that the original two are, not in the least. However, I personally found this to be a rather enjoyable sequel. Even despite the fact that some scenes dragged a bit.

This one takes place in 1970. Michael Corleone is now in his 60s and is seeking redemption from the Catholic Church. The acting in the movie is, well, not that good. Pacino's not quite as strong as he was the last two but he still gives just as good of a performance as usual. The acting is really just decent with the exception of **deep …

Not as perfect as I and II, but wraps it up nicely

Flawless like the first two Godfathers were? No. Worth your time watching? Definitely yes. In fact, this is the most intellectual of the Godfather movies; this movie must be watched carefully and intuitively to grasp the full meaning of the complex story told here by Coppola, which is one reason why so many viewers put it down. Okay, let me get the negatives out of the way. Sofia Coppola was not a good choice for Mary Corleone; she was stiff and nervous throughout. I do understand that she was not the first choice though (Winona Ryder and Julia Roberts were in line for casting but both turned it down), so this was not a total example of director boldly flaunting mediocrely-talented daughter in a movie. Also, the presence of Robert Duvall and his Tom Hagen character is sorely missed, …
