A surprisingly talk-heavy, yet tense confined thriller based on one of King's more underappreciated books.

I'll be the first to admit that I was never a great fan of Stephen King's novel - I'm more a fan of his more supernatural and straight horror rather than this more real life story. But the film works because Carla Gugino does a great job as the lead (essentially playing two versions of herself), with Bruce Greenwood likewise a great supporting role as the husband. The film touches on serious subject, especially abuse, and does so in a way that seems scarier than anything else. There are references to other King works and is a bit of horror thrown in, but Gerald's Game works most because of Gugino.
