A slick but shallow adaptation of Ray Bradbury's classic dystopian tale that replaces the nuance with on-the-nose commentary about Trumpian politics. For a HBO movie, it looks nice. Michael Shannon is good casting as the villain. It seems to have good intentions but its routine revolutionary rhetoric is a poor substitute for the imaginative yet eerily plausible future that Bradbury created.

I can't fault the acting, as both Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon both give outstanding performances. However, in trying to update this classic story for a more modern age, it leaves out a lot that made the novel as important today as it was when it was published. It's a shadow of the novel and while, not bad in of itself, it's not really Fahrenheit 451 at all. Read the book, watch the film - but don't weigh them equally.
