While all the pieces are here to make a great addition to the Dragon Tattoo series... I still can't wrap my head around why they didn't stick to the original plan. Sure, David Fincher's version cost more and didn't make as much as one would expect - but it wasn't a total disaster, either. Re-casting the leads here, Claire Foy and Sverrir Gudnason take over as Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist just muddles things further. The plot is interesting, the effects are cool but I can't help but think of what may have happened instead. Fede Alvarez had even less luck than Fincher and I have a feeling this is the last of this excellent series we'll be seeing on the big screen.

I honestly wish they let David Fincher do whatever he wants and not f**k him over. I mean, there are redeeming qualities in 'The Girl in the Spider’s Web' with the cinematography and Claire Foy doing her best as usual. At least they tried.

Convoluted mystery thriller about hacktivist Lisabeth Salander crossing paths with a ruthless group of cyber-criminals and competing government agencies. The plot is mainly a series of double-dealings and espionage concerning a MacGuffin whose importance is often explained with confounding exposition. Claire Foy (The Crown; First Man) acquits herself well enough for the part, appropriately playing it cold yet not entirely dispassionate. I will admit that I hadn't read the Millenium book series nor seen the earlier trilogy of film adaptations. Perhaps it would had helped make me less confused or more interested in what was happening.
