The Last Full Measure recreates an interesting true-story of heroism interrupted by Hollywood cliches. There’s a plucky protagonist (Stan) who is obstructed by Washington insiders to award the Medal of Honor to a fallen soldier from the Vietnam War. He’s aided by surviving veterans rescued by their deceased comrade-in-arms. The movie is meant to be an uplifting and sometimes harrowing story of perseverance and courage. It’s decent enough for that. But admittedly the wartime plot is more entertaining than the present-day scenes.

I find it ironic that this movie about a stuffy bureaucrat understanding the sacrifices made by those who fought feels like it was made by someone who didn't serve either. The intentions are valid, but the outcome is a predictable helping of Hollywood humbling.
