Emma is a beautifully shot costume drama that literary purists may enjoy. I was not one of them. The cast is definitely doing a good job. Everything just seemed too emotionally detached for its own good.

If you've seen one Jane Austen adaptation, you've seen them all. I admit that "Emma." is very pretty, but the droll and calculated presentation that this type of movie always has doesn't help it develop an original voice or identity of its own.
