Confusing editing and muddled storytelling hinder this dramatization of the famed Australian outlaw Ned Kelly. It's quite possible I'm just not a fan of Justin Kurzel. I didn't care for MacBeth or his Assassin's Creed movie. The movie briefly comes alive whenever a major actor appears for a brief time like Russell Crowe and Nicholas Hoult. There is also a weird Oedipal relationship between Kelly and his mother (Davis). It doesn't help that the movie is slowly paced either.

In Tarantino fashion, Justin Kurzel folds factual history into an overpacked and gritty Australian grindhouse epic.
