I thought this would be boring due to the lackluster trailers, but I was surprised by how good this is. I liked how the movie used different perspectives from characters, which tells us how often we misread other people's body language and make false assumptions or how we think we portray ourselves towards other people. Director Ridley Scott can be hit and miss sometimes, but when he makes a solid film, you remember how great he can be as a director. It's a dark movie with a heavy subject matter, so not for everyone.

Ridley Scott returns to the historical genre in this medieval drama about a knight and a squire who fight to the death after one is accused of raping the other’s wife. Based on a true story of course. Matt Damon is surprisingly boring here. But Adam Driver is far better as the accused squire. Jodie Comer acts the best of all three. She’s sympathetic and compelling as a clearly capable woman who is restricted by the social and legal framework of her era. Ben Affleck is actually quite entertaining as a depraved and corrupt nobleman. There’s more emphasis on drama and dialogue instead of action. But there’s a few battles sprinkled throughout the story. The climactic duel is a tense and brutal fight scene.

The "Rashomon" perspective approach can get repetitive, but it also helps turn this medieval epic into something much smarter and richer than most films like it.
