Four memorable figures of the Civil Rights era gather together in a motel room. Their personalities clash frequently as their own perspective on racism and the struggle for civil rights emerge. Sometimes they agree, often they don't. Leslie Odom Jr. is very good as Sam Cooke. Aldis Hodge is great as Jim Brown. I can't say I was too impressed with Kingsley Ben-Adir as Malcom X although he does look the part. Same with Eli Goree as Muhammad Ali;he's alright I guess. The movie does feel a bit more like a play than a movie as far as staging goes.

It's a little too inert for a motion picture, but "One Night in Miami" works nicely as a conversation starter with the assistance of its quartet of leads.
