Eye-popping animation and irresistibly catchy songs highlight this fantasy-comedy. Great voice-work from a mainly Colombian cast. There's a heartwarming message as with most Disney movies.

Disney has truly been on a roll by expanding their horizons - Moana, Raya, Luca, Soul and Coco have explored different cultures and also managed to be excellent films. You can add Encanto to that list - steeped in Puerto Rican culture the film is vibrant with a big heap of emotion, helped along by some excellent songs via Lin-Manuel Miranda. I hope Disney continues to explore even more because if the last few years are any indication, it packs a bigger punch and helps open your eyes.

With bright visuals, multilayered characters, and songs that are as uplifting as its message, "Encanto" is a holiday gift from Disney Studios that shows there's at least some magic left after a series of serviceably pedestrian projects.
