As generic as generic can be, "Blue Beetle" has spunk but little else to transform it into something more than just another assembly line superhero product to be mindlessly consumed.

"The universe has sent you a gift, and you have to figure out what to do with it." Blue Beetle doesn't change the superhero genre or anything new that you haven't seen before. However, I enjoyed this one. The movie has so much heart and character that it is hard to dislike. Some cool action set pieces as well. I say give it a watch.

This movie is comprised of familiar pieces from superhero movies. But it's undeniably got heart and while its sense of humor is corny, there were moments I laughed. George Lopez is pretty funny in this and the lead actor Xolo Mariduena is likable as Jaime Reyes. Susan Sarandon is wasted as the primary villain but Raoul Trujillo is a surprisingly complex henchman. The camaraderie among Reyes' family is genuinely touching and carries the movie through its slower parts.
