As a bonified Wes Anderson fan, even I was fairly disappointed in Asteroid City. While the film still has that signature Anderson look and style - along with a fantastic cast - it's the story and pacing that just don't live up to his best works. It's too much Wes Anderson for its own good.

I admire Wes Anderson's unique visual style that people foolishly think they can recreate easily. I liked the production design and the bright US postcards-like colour palette. But sadly, I didn’t get much out of this. I struggled to connect with the characters and the overall flow of it. I didn’t find the humour funny, and usually, I like Anderson’s comedy. I got bored watching it, which is sad. I was very disappointed with it.

This was an odd sit even for a Wes Anderson movie. The production design and cinematography is outstanding. I love the world that he has created in this movie. It's charming and visually pleasing. But the story is poorly paced and disjointed. This is a problem I had with his last movie, THE FRENCH DISPATCH. Some of the cast is pretty good. Like Jason Schwartzmann, Edward Norton, Tom Hanks, and Scarlett Johansson. There are vignettes that I really liked such as a schoolteacher (Maya Hawke) and a singing cowboy (Rupert Friend) hooking up.

In "Asteroid City," we see all of Wes Anderson's best known signatures and quirks. But they're there only as a crutch for its weak, unmemorable story.
