This underdog tale about the American Samoan soccer team making a comeback has its heart in the right place. Michael Fassbender is good as the coach who starts out as a jerk but then mellows out. It does try to be too weird for its own good sometimes. But I guess that is a given with Taika Waititi as the director.

I won't say Waititi full on subverts the sports movie, but he does decorate this one nicely enough with some quirky characters and his unique brand of humor to at least give the appearance of being something different.
