Unusual spin on the haunted house genre that mixes impressive monster puppetry with quirky humor and also some heavy ideas concerning PTSD and family trauma. It doesn't always balance out perfectly but it's not boring. That's probably due to some input from the underrated Fred Dekker (Night of the Creeps; The Monster Squad) contributing to the script.

I admit I probably need to re-watch this as I have a pretty vague recollection of it. I know it's better than the sequel - I know it's kind of creepy and really weird - so pretty much right up my alley.
