Preposterous but enough to pass the time

This is pretty goofy even as far as kaiju movies go. But the action is imaginative and well staged. Kong is an interesting protagonist and I respect the movie for allowing long segments where it is just Kong and other monsters. The human characters are not annoying but most of them are forgettable. Dan Stevens is the most interesting as an eccentric veterinarian for giant monsters. Any gravitas is credited to Rebecca Hall who is almost certainly just here for the paycheck. But I didn't quite think she was sleepwalking in this. Adam Wingard got his start as a director doing slick genre thrillers like The Guest. This movie does show he has the chops for blockbuster spectacle. Now once he gets his hands on a script to compliment the insane visuals he concocted like with this movie.
