Tony Scott’s first movie as a director is very well made and it looks great. The editing and pacing is a bit off though. Catherine Deneuve is attractive as the enigmatic vampire Miriam who begins searching for a new lover as soon as her previous companion (David Bowie) starts losing his eternal youth. She finds her target in the form of a suspicious doctor (Susan Sarandon) that can’t resist Miriam’s charm. There’s a great deal of emphasis on mood and style. There’s some creepy moments that turn quite bloody real quickly. I do think though that this movie is only fondly remembered because of the lesbian sex scene between Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve. I can’t blame them for that.
