The acting may be deserving of great distinction, but the cinematography looks like the work of someone with fewer intellectual capacities than the titular character.

this wasnt an action film, so anyone who thought that the movie was boring didnt actually watch it. just because this movie didnt have action in it doesnt make it bad. this movie was superb, Penn, Pfeiffer, and Fanning were outstanding. the plot is something that could actually happen in real life. and this wasnt meant to be an exciting movie, but a heartfelt movie for everyone. it really makes you feel for Sam(Penn) with all the things that happen to him in the film.

I Am Sam was a decent film. The acting in this film was spectacular. Sean Penn was great, but anyone who watched "Tropic Thunder" knows why he didn't win the Oscar. Michelle Pfeiffer and Dakota Fanning were also great. As for the plot, I found it boring and it seemed to go on forever, and when it ended, it ended very abruptly. I think the bad plot was made up for with the amazing acting and great direction.

Sean Penn has a very impressive filmography. Very prothean as he exhibits great talents in acting (OSCAR nominee for Best Actor in this film), directing, and film producing. Unfortunately though, for this particular one, pretty much like INTO THE WILD. It got lost somewhere. Too much promise but weak delivery. Good story though.

I Am Sam is about Sam, who is mentally retarded. After 7 years of raising his daughter Lucy on his own, Lucy begins to question why Sam is not like any other fathers. She dumbs herself down so as not to outsmart her father, and this is recognized by her teacher. This is when all the trouble starts. Sam struggles through impatient lawyers, intimidating court cases and a whole lot of pressure, all so he can keep custody of Lucy. This is a really sad and heartwarming story, that didn't fail to keep me mesmerized throughout the whole two hours. A must see.

I wish this film could've been better paced because it did have potential to be focused and relentlessly engaging. Sean Penn did a great job in this film, as well as Dakota Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer. I guess my main problem with it is that it did stumble upon cliche after cliche to the point where I got sick of the film and I wanted it to just end. It's not a bad movie... but it's not a good one either. Its quality lies somewhere inbetween.
