A perfectly casted ensemble drama. Every aspect of the relationships these two families share is represented with great honesty. I wasn't emotionally invested. Though, I was intrigued by how each character was going to face their own problems and how everyone's problems combine to make one seemingly (but not really) complicated mess.

A good and engaging story for the most part. The adult characters of Kline, Weaver, Allen, and Jamey Sheridan, as the two married couples, are very believable in their roles as frustrated, bored, and longing characters. If there's a weak point to the story, it comes from the younger crowd of Maguire, Ricci, Wood, and Holmes, who mirror their adult counterparts but come across as unbelievable due to a too-cool-for-school characterization that engages in more eye rolling the interest. Would have been a much better pic if the focus had been mostly on the adults.

Superb directing that captures an era in time near perfectly. The casting is also well done and adds to the enjoyment. One of those movies that stands up to repeat viewing and gets better every time.
