Another winner for Christopher Nolan, this riveting psychological thriller features a great performance by Al Pacino and a magnificent turn by Robin Williams playing against-type. Hillary Swank serves as the moral center and is also good. The film builds to a satisfying confrontation except the ending is rather abrupt.

Despite the intriguing detective story, "Insomnia" isn't as impressive as it thinks it is.

Nolan slowly builds this thriller frame by frame, until it reaches its chilling conclusion. The film works so well because it is built on a fantastic cat-and-mouse relationship between heroes and villain, with 3-D characters that are backed by immersive acting performances. Robin Williams, particularly, plays against his comedic type and is spellbinding in a very different role for him. The film's play with shadows and lighting is almost a character in and of itself.

Starts off on familiar thriller ground, but quickly snakes it way into a tightly woven and perfectly crafted piece of work. The mid-way surprise, introduction of Williams' character, and Pacino's insomnia are all elements that elevate the movie with the help of Nolan's directing.

An underrated masterpiece from the Alfred Hitchcock of our generation, Christopher Nolan. Complete with brilliant performances and a chilling atmosphere. One of the best films of the decade.

It's a movie that I rank between OK and good. I liked the environment where the movie is set. It helps the movie to get darker and more thrilling. Pacino's suffering of insomnia makes the film even darker. Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Hillary Swank do a good job in this movie that miss some things to make it great. Not one of Nolan's best but it's good.

A very competent thriller, starring the reliable Al Pacino. What really made this movie stand out above the endless string of serial killer whodunnits however was interestingly enough, Robin Williams. Instead of doing what would be the predictable thing in this casting circumstance, and have Williams' character be some deranged jokester (think Batman's The Riddler), Williams is a very logical, interesting adversary for Pacino and I thought the most interesting character in the film. Great direction by Christopher Nolan, of course, and the plot device of the never-setting Midnight Sun of Alaska was also interesting. I'd like to see the Norwegian original now.

Fantastic film. A remake (haven't seen the original) with great atmosphere, wich what Chris Nolan is good at it. Creating great atmospheres. This one is opressive and tiring. Indeed, great performances and fantastic music. A very good thriller.
