The Michael Caine classic gets an update and, inevitably, that loses some of the charm and wit of the original film in lieu of bigger and better action scenes. The action is furious and exciting (particularly the car chase sequence,) but the film ultimately is a by-the-numbers heist film. There are fun moments and the cast's charisma makes the whole thing a lot of fun, but the original is still superior.

This critic recalls enjoying this crime flick. A well-casted heist film with a witty dialogue and decent humor. It involves safe-cracker John Bridger (Sutherland), the thief Charlie Croker (Wahlberg), an inside man Steve (Norton), Rob (Jason Statham) a getaway driver, technical expert Lyle (Seth Green) and Left Ear (Def), an explosives expert. Charlie recruits Stella (Charlize Theron), the daughter of John who is a safe cracker. The story is faced paced, soundtrack was lively and direction was effective. Edward Norton shines in his role and the chase scenes were exciting. Despite the lack of a logical plot and engaging antagonist, The Italian Job is worth viewing for its genre.

Is there anyone who hasn't wanted a Mini Cooper after seeing this? Like the car, the movie itself is sleek, distinct and a fun ride.

This has to be one of my favorite movies. The cast was perfectly selected for this movie.

I really liked this movie. It wasn't artistically brilliant, but it was definitely action-packed and full of laughs from the ever-hysterical Mos Def as well as Seth Green. Jason Stratham was tolerable [finally] and Mark Wahlberg does a decent job carrying the movie. Charlize Theron is silly, but was epically swell, and Edward Norton is a great GREAT villain. A great picture.

Kind of a combination knock off from Ocean's Eleven and Gone in Sixty Seconds. This movie is entertaining, but not original.

Loved this one. Clever, lots of action and great revenge. Norton is superb as the bad guy -- you love to hate him.

Actually a very fun, smart caper. Not the best in the genre, but worthy enough to watch more than once. Plus, the chase scene with the Mini Coopers just rocks.
