Making a relationship work!

MovieAddict - wrote on 09/16/2012

Alison Scott is a production assistant on E! Entertainment who has just got a promotion. So, she celebrates at a club with her sister Debbie (Leslie Mann). Her sister goes home leaving Alison who’s already had too much to drink. She starts chatting up a stranger at the bar, Ben and before they know it it's off to the bedroom much to the chagrin of the usually responsible Alison. When morning comes, the two happily separate from one another and both think that is the last they have seen of each other until Alison starts barfing at work. She and her sister rush to the drug store and buy up every brand of pregnancy test they can find and, yep, that little red line shows up every time.

Faced with the moral dilemma Alison decides to keep the baby and make the best out of an unexpected …

Knocked Up

I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. That said, I don't think it's a bad movie. It's just not as great as people hyped it up to be. Personally, I think "Superbad" is funnier because it was willing to take risks and it reminded me of the flicks of the 1980's. "Knocked Up" is more sitcom material with constant laughs but it's not daring enough. It needed that extra push for me to consider it a great comedy. The best thing about this movie is Paul Rudd, who served as a foil for the main male character. I even prefer "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" over this one. "Knocked Up" tried to be "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" by throwing references here and there. It just didn't work for me. It goes to show that the mainstream is not aware of sharper, funnier, indie comedies out there like the film …

It's okay, in a sense

I may have been the last person in the world to see this movie. I don't think I enjoyed it as much as everyone else did, simply because I've heard so much about it there wasn't any way it could measure up to what I was expecting. I was surprised. I will say, though, that the first half is much better than the second half. In the first half it's pretty original and fresh, but the second half degenerates into your typical romantic comedy that embraces stereotypes you've seen a million times before: guys are selfish and dumb, women are shrill and controlling. And of course, the couple breaks up only to reunite when the water breaks and everyone lives happily ever after. Sorry if I just spoiled it for all of you, but you can see this ending coming a mile away.

It's too much and too long

At some point, the pot smoking, cuss word spewing, inappropriate humor gets over done. While there is a lot of laughs, there are too many flaws in this movie to call it a great comedy. It's too long, especially when less then half the jokes cause me to laugh. I'd say this movie is hilarious to the immature teenagers who wish they were part of the pot smoking group in the movie, or to actual pot smoking groups out there who find this movie hitting home. I'm not in either one.

To be more specific, I don't really get to know any pot smoking group. All they do is spit out obscenities and insults. The married couple fights all the time which gets old, and the kid's inappropriate, shouldn't be saying that type of stuff at her age is flat out dumb. The growing up by the main character …

Knocked Up Scores a Knock Out

Judd Apatow has somehow figured out the golden ratio: make a comedy that has enough sick jokes and f-bombs to appeal to a male-oriented crowd, yet deliver enough of the relationship and romance angle to appeal to the female-oriented crowd.

You have poor shlub Ben Stone, played to perfection by Seth Rogen, an apathetic lump wanting nothing more than to smoke weed, hang with his friends and watch movies. His polar opposite is career driven Alison Scott, whose on the fast-track at E! TV, promoted to on-air status. A chance meeting at a club, one wild night and 8 weeks later - and well, you get the picture.

The real meat of the film is about the relationship between Ben and Alison, from strangers, to friends, to a couple and also the relationship of Pete and Debbie (Paul Rudd and …

Knocked Up Could Bring You To Your Knees

I have never heard so many cuss word in my life. This is the ultimate date movie that reminds me of 40 year-old virgin (directed by the same person). It was gross, smart, sweet, and a blast to watch. This could be nominated for best comedy come awards time.

It was not necessarily the gross out scenes or the cussing that made this movie funny. It was the relationship that was built during a short period of time. If you take one career driven women and mix it with a 0 sense man you get a bad relationship. This is when a lot of growing up takes place. Both of their interests were combined eventually to make a funny romp. Strangely enough, they make a cute couple.

Although Virgin is funnier at times (the hot wax scene taking the cake), this one may be a little bit more important. We …
