Daniel Day-Lewis BECOMES Abraham Lincoln is this eye-opening look into the political challenges faced of our 16th president.

I thought it was a very strong political historical film in which Daniel Day-Lewis presents a clever piece of acting. Admittedly, American history is not my dada, but I have watched it with admiration. The whole really radiated the atmosphere of that period. There were sometimes some dry, boring dialogues … but that’s politics. In my opinion this film should have won the Oscar instead of “Argo“. More reviews here : movie-freak.be

Steven Spielberg's long-in-the-work biography of the sixteenth President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, as he presides over nation, and family, during the Civil War. this is going to be a short review of this so let's go.this movie had good acting and great make-up.

I will start by saying two good things. First, the acting is great. The performances were amazing. Second, I can appreciate that this story was told without drugs, sex, violence. However, it lacked drama. I understand that the subject matter was important, but I felt like I was watching a really detailed history book. It was difficult to sit through this movie.

Not a good movie. Despite the beautiful scenery, amazing performances, and interesting subject matter, this movie failed. It is NOT a movie about Abraham Lincoln (as other reviewers have stated). The pacing is ok, but I had no interest in the subject matter or how it was told. At times it was good, but too often, I felt like leaving the theater.

This important moment in our nation's history has been given an admirably respective treatment, in it's transition to film. A lengthy and dialogue heavy piece that manages to flow evenly through it's runtime, bringing insight and entertainment in equal measures. Superb, from both an acting and filmmaking standpoint. Daniel Day-Lewis gives one of the most convincing portrayals, of a real life figure, that I've ever seen. I found it wholly satifying.

I felt this move should have been entitled: The 13th Amendment. It's really not about the man it's about the amendment. Not that you shouldn't make a film about the amendment that freed the slaves, but when it called Lincoln, I expect it to be about Lincoln. I felt like I was just watching Oscar-fodder. Not that that's always a bad thing, but Mr. Spielberg, if you should read this, you don't need them. Your films both Oscar winning and not are the finest in American Cinema. To me this movie felt a little hollow.

It's pretty much your typical Lincoln-lovefest. But, it has superb actors in it.
