Tolkien's novels were at one time considered unfilmable. Peter Jackson proved that wrong with one of the greatest final entry of any trilogy in cinema and it's two stunning predecessors.

perfect film!!!. truly the best film ever made hands down, peter jackson and crew had a nice job, i think LOTR doesn't deserve 17 oscars but it shoud be won 20 oscars. best picture for the fellowship of the ring, best art direction for the two towers and best cinematography for the return of the king.

As a concluding chapter, Return of the King is as epic and awesome as it should be. The climactic trek to Mordor is the film's heart and the movie succeeds most when it stays small - focusing on the battle of wits between Gollum and Sam and Frodo. Some of the action sequences are a little over the top and special effects heavy and the film suffers from multiple false endings, but, all in all, it's a satisfying and soaring conclusion to a very faithful trilogy.

The amazing grand finale. Truly the best third part to any film trilogy.
