Grand and often very powerful, this seafaring adventure accounts the tests and decisions a commander faces, on top of being entertaining.

The first half of this sea-faring adventure seemed so bogged down with attention to detail and authenticity that the people on board seemed almost like an afterthought, leaving it feeling like a docudrama rather than a film. The second half sees it show the human side of the story however and it becomes far more engaging, culminating in a fine swashbuckling finale. Have patience with it and you will be rewarded.

The pacing and tension of this movie is incredibly effective. The cat-and-mouse game grows with each scene until the film reaches its inventive and explosive conclusion. It may be slow-moving to some, but the film raises the stakes with each scene and I found it impossible to look away.

So utterly boring I couldn't finish it.

I fell asleep... I tried again, and once more I fell asleep. This movie is the better than any over the counter medicine you can buy if you are having problems sleeping. Simply throw this movie in, and in under 30 minutes you will be out cold. I guess it was supposed to be pretty good, if I can stay awake while watching it at some point I'll tell ya, but otherwise I just can't do it.

Can you saying boring and uneventful. A ship sailing movie should be full of adventure and lots of good times. I didn't really have a good time watching this. Having said that, the acting was good (specifically Bettany). Miss this one.

I don't use the phrase "rousing high-seas adventure" very often, but that pretty much best describes Master and Commander. Great chemistry between the cast and excellent locations (Galapagos Islands) makes this a better-than-average film.
