The unraveling is a bit of a stretch, but "Matchstick Men" is an entertaining and touching caper.

Nicolas Cage gives a paranoid and nuanced performance that works in this character-based con man story. The relationship between Cage and Lohman is sweet and is the glue that keeps this quirky heist film going.

Roy Waller (Nicolas Cage) is a con man who suffers from agoraphobia, mysophobia, obsessive-compulsive personality disorderand a tic disorder and discovers her estranged 14 year old daughter Angela (Alison Lohman). Chuck Frechette (Bruce McGill) is the businessman targeted by Franks and Roy. Had a few comical and sensitive moments, especially the father daughter relationship. The conclusion was noteworthy though. Nothing memorable or amazing except for the believable performance of Nicolas Cage and authenticity of Alison Lohman. Matchstick Men is okay comedy drama to watch with themes of honesty, loyalty and family, with a simple premise.

A wonderful film starring Nicholas Cage and Sam Rockwell. A great, cool movie directed by wonderful Ridley Scott.

Ridley Scott does a cute, flashy but fun crime caper. And it works beautifully. Nicholas Cage in a pre Ghost Rider performance which reminds us of what the guy is capable of, and he's is ably supported by Sam Rockwell. But playing Cage's daughter is Alison Lohman, a star in the making. She hits all the right notes and plays a difficult role, which somehow, she pulls off. Hugely enjoyable, maybe not quite a classic, but close enough.

I nearly turned this off, because the beginning was slow and strange. I really liked the direction this headed. Things changed real fast and nothing was what it seemed. I merely glanced through the book and it seemed the movie added a character, Nicholas Cage's love interest at the grocery store. Alison Lohman played this role well.

On the surface this seems like a usual dramedy but with Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell and Alison Lohman giving their best, Matchstick Men manages to pull the heartstrings while putting a smile on your face. Quirky, original and entertaining.
