"McCabe & Mrs. Miller" is a different kind of western, one that isn't bolstered by noisy gun fights, but sociopolitical themes.

Reading Ebert's treatise on Altman's naturalistic movie raised my opinion of it quite a bit (he calls it a perfect film-and argues the case well)It is a very empty film-and that's the point-a story around a whorehouse in a town either frozen or muddy. The music by Cohen is excellent. The fake snow bothered me.

The best I've seen by Altman this far. Great cinematography and a score by Leonard Cohen.
