Billionaire media mogul Bill Parrish (Anthony Hopkins) thinks about a merger. His daughter Susan (Claire Forlani) is in a relationship with Drew (Jake Weber), one of his father's staffs. Susan gets acquainted with Joe but Death has other plans. Despite its stellar cast and honest performances, the overall premise and pace just dampens the overall film. Meet Joe Black's length can really be felt because of the uninteresting plot and lack of a likable figure.

A slow burn of a movie with a solid and believable cast and a brooding and introspective take on life and death. Some of the symbolism and fantasy moments play as obvious, but the "real life" storylines ground the film and give it an emotional core.

Idiotic. This movie enters my Top 10 Worst Movies List. Horribly written-several lines made me groan. The (mostly unlikable and unrelatable) characters all act implausibly. After 3 hours of this, I wished death would take me instead.

A very interesting movie with an outstanding cast. Good, but long.

This movie was unbelievably long. The filmmakers could've cut this into a one hour and forty minutes movie that easily. Instead, they gave us a movie that has a three hours running time full of cluttered backstories. For instance, I thought the bit about the company conflict was a bit overdone, there was an unnecessary villain, and an extended a bit overdramatic finale. Granted, I did like the feel of the film and I liked the plot. Other than that, this is an empty, gargantuan shell. I don't know, perhaps I wasn't feeling romantic when I saw this film. On the other hand, it's also not sensible to create a romantic fantasy that's as long as a third of "The Long of the Rings" saga. Skip this one if you can.
