Typically good camerawork for a Michael Mann project, but the flat characters and generic plot make this modern update of the T.V. series a subpar effort from a usually invigorated director.

James 'Sonny' Crockett and Ricardo 'Rico' Tubbs are undercover agents who are stylish with fast cars and guns. From the beginning it wasn't that engaging, dialogue were iffy and intimate scenes were too emphasized. As mentioned before this review, the plot was one of the main reasons it never became good. The TV show could do better stories than this installment. Lack of character development, interesting story and villain left this reviewer disappointed. Only thing worth seeing was the near conclusion during the rescue. Miami Vice is one of those TV shows that should have never been created for the big picture, unless your into violence, sex, fast cars and undercover cop movies. Too each his own as the saying goes.

I remember kinda liking this movie. The action was good. But if I remember correctly, the plot was kind of lacking.

A razor thin plot is drawn out through lush cinematography and an MTV soundtrack filled with Mash-Ups and mild trance. Is that okay? Some may fall prey to its style, though even that is questionable as Crockett and Tubbs sport two of the strangest hairlines in cinematic memory. I won't say more, but you'll need to see it or google-pic it to believe it. Mann's set-up is fascinating enough and puts a veiled cover over Haitan, Cuban, and Aryan gangs battling over the Miami drug trade. From there it dissolves into paint-by-number territory where everything you thought would happen slowly dries over three hours.

Realistically shot in typical, monochromatic Michael Mann style, but this is just boring and generic cops vs. criminals territory which leaves too many loose ends. Final Grade: C

Okay, I am a bit ashamed for liking this movie because asides from lots of action there isn't much to this film. Plus the unbelievable nature of the action is way over the top. Still, I find myself enjoying the movie for what it was. An action film in the spirit of a bad Arnold Swartzenegar movie (little plot, lots of explosions, and the bad guys all have terrible aim) There were several aspects/questions I couldn't get figure out when it came to this movie. 1) Do normal vice squads normally have this many resources at their disposal? 2) How are they so rich? 3) Why would they put drawn out love scenes in an action film? If you have the answers, I wouldn't mind hearing them.

Michael Mann can make good films, but this was an exercise just staying awake, let alone trying to follow any story. Other than the final gun fight, I was left bored to tears. I would watch the TV show over this any day.

This movie was awful. You couldn't pick out a plot if you tried. I saw this in the theatre and it was the first time I was ever willing to get up and leave, and just lose the money I paid for the ticket. From what I remember, there really wasn't a whole lot of action either. It was a true disappointment.
