A beautiful film immersed in a beautiful culture, audiences who are tired of coming-of-age stories about traditional American families should find "The Namesake" very refreshing.

This movie is a great look into the fascinating Indian culture. Its a great dipiction of the classes between first-generation immigrants and their children. The parents are struggling to preserve their culture, while thier children are just trying to fit in with the people they are growing up around. I loved watching Gogol's character transform from being this slightly rebellious and indifferent adolescent, to a man who became accepting and appreciative of his culture. The mother was also brilliant. I've known a lot of Indian fiamilies and she was a genuine depiction of an Indian mother in America. This was a really moving story.

An interesting film that spans a couple generations. I found it to be enjoyable and worthy of viewing. Another great one from Mira Nair!
