A 50s film noir is remade into a by the numbers thriller. Not terrible, but there's nothing here we haven't seen a hundred times before.

Despite smooth effort from Gene Hackman and Peter Hyam's solid claustrophobic direction, this limp, predictable thriller is just a pale imitation of the 1952 original with weak villains and much too abrupt action sequences. Final Grade: C
