Clive Barker is a great author - but, like Stephen King, his words don't translate the best to the big screen - even moreso when a studio decides to butcher the final product. Luckily, a director's cut of Nightbreed has surfaced - and it it highly recommended you watch this "true' version. It's still a bit campy and schlocky - but it has heart and it not a typical horror film by any stretch. A cult classic that deserves a look.

Started off strong, but kept depleting my interest as it progressed. The weird horror vibe slowly devolved into a nonsensical story that masks it's complete lack of involvement with creative make-up F/X. The repetitive action of the second half had me bored. The mythos of these 'nightbreeders' are confusingly explained. Not even Cronenberg's creepy performance can save this mess.

I am not a fan of Clive Barker. His ideas tend to be rather juvenile and schlocky but this film does have it's good points. The production design is cheap and tacky but David Cronenberg puts in a watchable performance as the psychotic shrink.
