Decades before City of God, Bunuel presents a forlorn portrait of street children trying to survive their rough circumstances. The film takes an observational perspective, not choosing to condemn or uplift any of its characters actions, but merely lets the events it portrays run their tragic course. Sad, but well-made.

An amazing film with probably the best dream sequence ever on film! And that is quite a feat.

I hope this is the Buñuel's one. Here we go: Buñuel's mexican period is not better or worse than the french one. Is at the same time equally good, and different. We are in a different continent and country. With different social and political situations. But Buñuel knows, I mean, he really understand what he's talking about (society, politics, religion, philosophy) and this one is the father of movies like Tsotsi or City of god, among others. Tough story, great performances and some symbolic touches for creating an all time masterpiece. I liked the original ending better.
