While "Passion" is certainly a stunning production and features a committed performance by Jim Caviezel, that doesn't make up for the film's lack of scope. Director Mel Gibson treads the same sacred ground of Jesus' life as other filmmakers have (most notably Martin Scorsese who had previously made "The Last Temptation of Christ"), but does so without the artful meditations on what his teachings and crucifixion meant. Almost everything that made movies like this engaging, compelling, and thought-provoking has been replaced with slogging drama, excessively gruesome violence, and an overuse of slow-motion shots.

Mel Gibson gives life to the Catholic stations of the cross by capturing Jesus' death and suffering in a vivid and often difficult to watch way. Jim Caviezel gives a raw performance, but the real star is the historical reality and unflinching brutality that Gibson captures on screen. It's tough to watch, but emotionally captivating.

A Christ film that is solely focused on one specific area of the story: from his capture by the Romans, to the crucifixion. The recreations of the time period, including attention to details such as language, are all appreciated from a filmmaking standpoint. It does create a believable world and situation. However, the situation at hand essentially amounts to two hours of continuous torture. I wasn't turned off by the violence. I only wanted more than just that. I found the whole experience to be plodding and dour.

At least someone was closer to describing how Christ suffered for us. Very dejecting movie.

I believe it is a work of fiction, but a good one. Kudos to Gibson for making the movie he wanted to make.

No, I can't watch this movie over and over, but this was one of the best films about the life and crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the cross. What struck me most about this movie was the hype. It wasn't incredible, but it did attach itself to my emotional core and yanked it out. Satan was insane in this, eh?

"ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES" .... This is pretty much the ultimate litmus test of the entire production. I am so tempted to go deep in analytical argument but I refuse to. I am merely doing a movie review. When it comes to a bible-based movie, one thing needs to be considered extremely important: HISTORICITY. And I would say it was quite accurate. Every conscientious Bible student should do an in-depth dissertation of this film as a pre-requisite to graduation. The concepts of vicarious sacrifice, atonement, and Christ's complete humanity have been successfully portrayed.

This movie should have won a Best Picture Oscar. The story jumps out of the screen and effects you on so many different levels. Many people cried, I did not. I got angry. The reason I got angry is because of the punishment that they were giving my Savior. I believe in Jesus! But if you are a believer or not a believer, this film was very well crafted and did deliver a lot of emotion.

While I was watching this movie, I was eating my popcorn and bit my tongue. It hurt so bad and I have never experienced that kind of suffering. I can't imagine going through a more difficult experience than that, especially when it started to swell. And during the scene where Jesus is whipped repeatedly by the metal spikes, I bumped my funny bone on the arm rest. The pain that I experienced during this movie is something I will never forget.
