While westerns would prove to be more to Eastwood's forte, this stalker thriller is a competently made directorial debut.

Clint Eastwood's directorial debut is a solid thriller thanks to a frightening performance by Jessica Walter as a deranged stalker.

The original stalker film. Slightly dated, but infinitely better than Fatal Attraction.

It's Jessica Walter's frightfully unhinged stalker that makes this thriller work. With a cheesier actress at the reins, I think it would verge into camp, but there's just the right amount of believability at play that the film is genuinely pretty scary.

Eastwood plays it cool in this good psycho thriller. The standout here is Walter as the crazy Evelyn. She is convincingly psychotic, but never gets too over the top with it.

What a directorial debut! What a GREAT movie! Play Misty For Me has to go down as 1 of the best Suspense movies of all time.I got hooked in right from the start.Jessica Walter was perfect as the psychotic stalker & the Golden Globe nomination she got, She most definitely deserved.I don't know who she was up against but she should've won.You must see this movie at least once

Action: 3/3 + Comedy: 1/2 + Good vs Evil: 1/1 + Love/Sex: 1/1 + Special Effects: 0.5/1 + Plot: 1/1 + Music: 1/1 = 8.5/10 or 85%. This is a tight well-done thriller. The dialogue is genuine and fun and the whole film is an exploration of what is natural: love, sex, music, lush mountains, etc. Of course, every natural and beautiful thing and concept has a dark side and the dark side here is scary!

I waited awhile to see this movie. It is not astounding, but at the same time very well done and entertaining. Recommended if you like psycho chick movies and/or Clint Eastwood.

As part of the Crazy Chick with a Knife genre, this film inverts the power relations of the Slasher Genre of horror films: a man is terrorized by an unfathomably psychotic woman who plays with knives, lies and sex. Clint, however, handles the situation with remarkable sauve, offering great 70's lines like "You can't just drop in here whenever you like. What if I had another lady friend over? I thought we agreed no-strings-attached." Depending on your experience with crazy exs, this film will either make you laugh -- or shudder with recognition.
