Simultaneously a mystery thriller and a satire of the politics and hobnob of big time Hollywood, "The Player" is considered by many as Robert Altman's crowning achievement.

Tim Robbins shines in this pitch black comedy about a studio exec being talked by a disgruntled writer.

Subversive razor edge satire about the shallow aspects of Hollywood. The film's point of interest never gets lost among the story or surplus amount of star cameos. The ending leaves a perfectly cynical and meta coda to the film that provided a great final laugh.

This is another of Robert Altman's more coherent films - a snarky and on-point satire of the film industry. For those who understand the industry, there are some great in-jokes, but, even for those who don't, the film works as a strong domestic thriller with some superb acting from an ensemble cast.

An amazing film about the movie industry and a producer who gets in over his head.
