"There back". The family has moved and hopes to put the terror behind them, but once again a spirit, this time in the guise of zealot Reverend Kane, has been drawn to Carol Anne. This movie may not be as scary or good as the first but it is still a good horror film with good effect's.

A quality sequel to the classic ghost movie. Ditching the light tone and laughs from the original film, it instead concentrates on the chills; the ghoulish evangelist is genuinely creepy. It only misses the mark at the very end by insisting on showing "the other side" in cheesy special effects rather than leaving it to the imagination.

The family is back and still being haunted. This second helping has less scare and didn't hold my interest near as well. It's a mediocre sequel, with a crazy ending that tries to hard to top the original.

Action: 3/3 + Comedy: 0/2 + Good vs Evil: 1/1 + Love/Sex: 0.5/1 + Special Effects: 0.5/1 + Plot: 0.5/1 + Music: 0.5/1 = 6 or 60%. The poltergeist return and the hauntings take on new, over the top manifestations. For example, Robbie's braces inexplicably shoot wires out of his mouth and tie him up. The creature in the final battle is billed as the Vomit Creature and at one point an indiviual is possessed by a tequila worm. While Julian Beck offers a chilling portrayal as the evil Kane, the overall product does not balance the franchise's familiar family themes amongst the horrors of the supernatural very well.

The first Poltergeist felt original and fresh, this sequel decidedly less so, even though it retains most of the original cast. There are few truly scary scenes (though Julian Beck makes a suitably creepy villain). Overall kind of boring.
