A tidal wave spells disaster for a boatload of New Year's Eve revelers when it capsizes the mammoth vessel, pitching the passengers into a desperate battle for survival. What a water down remake that lacks on characters and writing.

For a film that takes place in a capsized sinking ship, you'd think it would be in the least bit thrilling.

'The Poseidon Adventure' was no masterpiece, but at least some of its characters (such as the elderly Jewish couple and the lead played by Gene Hackman) were somewhat engaging and, truth by told, quite well portrayed. Yet this worthless remake can't even give us that. Instead, we get Kurt Russell doing a terrible Hackman impersonation, Josh Lucas having a personality bypass, Kevin Dillon playing a gambler whose auspicious nickname practically marks him for the choir invisible, and Emmy Rossum, with this being her second appearance in a water-related disaster film, not getting the message that Neptune really does not like her. As you can probably tell, I was not impressed by this film.

As remakes go, you could do worse, but the original was such b-movie goodness, while this one takes things way too seriously. Watch the original over this if you can, but don't feel too bad if you see this one too.

A mediocre remake to a classic blockbuster. This seemed to rely on special effects and action sequences than character and plot. Kurt Russell seemed to give an okay performance.

This was pretty intense and scary for younger kids (even 12 year olds). Overall a decent adventure but not fabulous.
