An astonishingly forceful biopic from Martin Scorsese.

Multifaceted tale of redemption; Scorsese constructs a tremendous piece of influential transcendence, visually inspired by Bob Fosse's Lenny (1974). We all have personal rings, and the fighters are several. That's life. De Niro, through his best performance so far, contributes to a powerful entry to the 80s and an astounding biographical portrait cinematically ahead of its time. 97/100

For me, Raging Bull will reign as Scorsese's best film and Robert De Niro's best performance. The film's cathartic deconstruction of a deteriorating boxer's career is a spiritually and thematically rich journey. De Niro is front and center, giving every ounce of energy and weariness alike into his performance and his bolstered by Joe Pesci's boisterous counterpart (Pesci's performance is also a career highlight for him, though his turn in Goodfellas might be more memorable.) The film's black and white cinematography gives a stark and brutal air to some of the film's dramatic scenes and the boxing scenes are poetic violence. In all, a film that will make you wince and think long after it's over.

There's really nothing else to say about this film that hasn't already been said. DeNiro's performance, Scorsese's direction, the supporting players - they're all great. My only gripe is a standard gripe about most of Scorsese's films - they just don't know when to end, and here we have about a 30 minute coda about LaMotta's later years in life, which is a tough way to watch the end of the movie (save for a great jail scene) when the previous 90 minutes have been outstanding. A good viewing though, I can see why it wasn't as appreciated in its time but has grown since.

One of the best sports and biopics to grace the screen. Robert De Niro became Jack LaMotta, figuratively and literally. Method acting became a household term which also comes with sacrifice, De Niro had to gain weight and loose it throughout the production of this film. Its one of many pairings with Joe Pesci, who also did a splendid job with his character. The movie represents that humans can make mistakes, the abuse of power and married life. Has one of the finest, realistic fight scenes on a boxing ring. A treat to watch if your in a mood to see somebody suffer from making huge imperfections in their lives.

Undoubtedly the greatest biopic that cinema has ever produced (with the possible exception of 'Schindler's List'), 'Raging Bull' is a powerful and captivating work of art. Free of the spurious dynamism that would so jarringly appear in Scorsese's later efforts, it remains the renowned auteur's finest film.

Perhaps the most beautiful looking movie of all time (just look at the fantastic boxing scenes). The fact that the film is set in Black/White make it even better, I couldn't even imagine how it would be if it were set in color. Also, perhaps the most beautiful performance by an actor of all time. This is arguably Scorsese's best film, containing great acting and a strong dialogue in a fantastic story. Captures the 40/50s with great cinematography and fantastic music. This companionship of De Niro and Scorsese gives us the best movie of the 80's and of the best movies of all time.

A classic biopic about a larger than life animal whose terrible choices lead him on a path of destruction. One of the grittiest and most brilliant films ever made. A work of art from master craftsman Martin Scorsese.

There have been a few legendary performances in the history of cinema, and to me, Robert De Niro as Jake LaMotta in this movie, stands on top. This is the best sports movie ever, Rocky can't hold a boxing glove to this movie. This also might be legendary director Martin Scorsese's best film.
