Hysterical nonsense in which Mel Gibson gets red-faced and shouts a lot at some nefarious kidnappers who have taken his freckle-faced poster child of a son. Cold, calculating mastermind, untrustworthy psychopath, tart with a heart; all the stereotpyes are on display. Stupid contrived rubbish.

I recall this to be an entertaining action drama film involving a multi-millionaire airline owner Tom Mullen (Mel Gibson) and his kidnapped son Sean. Tom and Kate Mullen (Rene Russo) receive a messages from the kidnappers amounting $2,000,000 as ransom. The plot was interesting with a slight twist in the end. Performances were sincere from the leads. Mel Gibson proves he is one of the solid actors around in this flick. Ransom is a well casted movie about making sacrifices for your family.

Ron Howard does a great job of ramping up the tension and excitement in this thriller, which features some strong action scenes and acting with immediacy from Gibson. Gibson's desperate performance adds another layer of high stakes to this kidnapping tale.

Mel is so believable when he's nasty and hard nosed. Almost like it comes naturally.

Solid acting, directing and a couple of cool twists make for a good kidnapping movie.

A solid thriller from the mid-90's. Although I felt like some scenes were a bit slow, the last forty-five minutes were excellent. I guess one of the things I found that is most interesting from this film is Mel Gibson's character. I was surprised about how daring he was when he risked his son's life: initially two million dollars for anyone who catches the kidnappers. At times, it seems as though his character is on the verge of madness so it was kind of hard to trust him. I even thought that perhaps he was the surprise mastermind of the kidnapping--he became that scary. It was a nice twist to this kidnapping crime thriller subgenre and I would recommend this film to anyone who is interested in fine performances.

Passable enough, but nowhere near the top of my list for Ron Howard or Mel Gibson. Has all the elements for success, but somehow I just never connected. I don't know, it just feels completely average - nothing ever stands out.
