While its story goes through the familiar beats of the biopic formula, Jamie Foxx's performance is undoubtedly as smooth as the real Ray Charles.

Ray does a great job of not glamorizing or diminishing the talents of the late Ray Charles. Jamie Foxx proves that he is more than a comedic actor with a performance that manages to capture Charles' mannerisms without seeming like a caricature. The film's soundtrack, all drawn from previously recorded Ray Charles music, is fantastic.

Pretty much your off-the-shelf bio-pic, except that the lead role is done to perfection by Jamie Foxx, and the person whose life he's interpreting is one of the true giants of popular music.

Jamie Foxx well deserved the Oscar for this movie. I personally am quite sick of watching movies about all these tormented stars who are so brilliant but behind the scenes they coke up. It's just not interesting anymore. But as for Foxx's and Washington's performances, they were excellent.

All of these biopics seem about the same. Walk the Line and Ray are almost identical in story and execution. Fox gives a perfect performance as often I thought I was listening to Ray Charles and watching him as well. Forgettable but OK.
