Christian Bale and Steve Zahn play POWs trapped inside a prison camp during the Vietnam War. Werner Herzog's direction is fine and the Thailand scenery is great. But it's slow paced and I can't say that the payoff is worth the wait.

The great Werner Herzog tells one of his most linear films to date, a brutal and documentary-style tale of POW survival. Christian Bale brings his usual depth of character and intensity to the lead role and Steve Zahn also departs from his comedic persona to fill a worthy supporting role. In your face, tragic, and arresting.

A great intense film. Bale is great but zahn gives a career changing performance. The only problem is the dialogue is a bit too quiet at times

Is Christian Bale thinner here than The Machinist? It's a close call. This is a great POW/Vietnam film. The characters drive it, and they drive it well. One of the better recent war movies I've seen.

This movie took a really long tmie to get into the action, and the buildup to the main part of the movie was quite bad and not well-written. If you can sit through the first 70 minutes or so, the movie starts to get good and finishes off well.
