Lavish bible epic about a Roman soldier (Burton) who becomes sympathetic to the persecuted Christians and draws the ire of the mad emperor Caligula (Robinson). Some of the pacing is a little stodgy. But Jay Robinson livens up the movie every time he appears in one of the wackiest performances you'll see in a 1950s historical drama.
