A film that shows how a battlefield is. Although it is not perfect it has the spectacle that makes it good. I think the characters are a little more stock than some critics but it is epic. The character I had a real problem with was the guy who could not shoot he was rather Cliched but This is one film where the visuals themselves make up for a lack of an extremely good story. The story is okay but not great. Pros: Perfectly shot and directed. Fine performances. Cons: Some stock characters and cliched character actions.

This is my favorite war movie and one of my favorite movies of all time. The cinematograophy was top notch and told a touching and horrific story about war. I had two uncles in World War 2 so it was especially interesting to watch and know where they were. It was also a bit sad to think about what they witnessed. I think that after watching this movie you have a new respect for people that serve our country everyday.

Saving Private Ryan (SPR) is one of my all time favorite films. Spielberg does an amazing job reenacting the Normandy invasion and horrors of war. You become part of the squad that risk’s it all to save a man the never knew. Taking you from the sands of Omaha to the small towns of Nazi occupied France, no detail is overlooked. Proper uniforms, weapons, tanks, everything was perfectly used to show how war was like on the Eastern front. On the surface it is just another gruesome war movie but it is more then just that. It masterfully illustrates what war can do to a person, how boys are transformed into men, and create an everlasting brotherhood between soldiers, a brotherhood were you risk your life for the man next to you.

Anyone can depict the physical horrors of war, that's easy. Once again Spielberg tries to be overly sentimental to try and provoke a tear from the audience.

It has a couple good moments. I remember trying to eat tuna with Russian dressing (red) while watching this. Oops.

You can notice a different kind of Spielberg movie here. At least, visually. Special use of lenses and filters gives to the movie a unique look. And the usual easy going story that catchs your attention. Honestly. I can't believe Shakespeare won over this one.

This movie is one of the greatest war drama's ever made It's full of great acting between an all star cast including Tom Hanks, Edward Burns, Tom Sizemore, Barry Pepper and Matt Damon. It's a remarkable story of how five men got an order to save a private named Ryan, who's three other brothers were already killed in action. These five men who didn't even know Ryan, risk there lives to save him. Now how's that for human kindness, oh ya and listening to your superior when they give you an order.
