Amid the lameness of the humor, there are some surprisingly sharp jabs at horror films (mostly the slasher film genre.) This is as fresh as the series will get, which isn't saying much.

Solid parody that has more hits than misses in the jokes. There are those moments where I think to myself: "Why?", but it's still consistently funny, for the most part. I found this movie to be hilarious once, when I was twelve, but watching it recently I find that it doesn't hold up to repeated viewings the older I get.

Actually a decent movie. It was something new, at the time, now parodies come out every week it seems. But this first one was fresh and original.

Before parody movies became a crutch to fall back on, the original Scary Movie was actually fresh! Although Scream itself was kind of a parody of horror films, Scary Movie is an R-rated farce of epic sophomoric proportions.
