Weekend Box Office: Fallen Kingdom Rises to the Top, Incredibles 2 Stands Strong
Chris Kavan - wrote on 06/24/18 at 07:30 PM CT
It was a no-brainer as to what film was going to top the box office. With no other competition, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom had a monster opening. While it fell short of the original Jurassic World, that was to be expected. Even with Solo tanking, this June is already the best on record - topping $1 billion and coming in (so far) $39 million ahead of 2015 - when the original Jurassic World …
New in Theaters June 22: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

It's another blockbuster weekend where there is only one new film being released as every other film cowers in terror. This time around we have Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, followup to the monster hit Jurassic World that made over $650 million domestic and $1.6 billion worldwide when it lit up the box office back in 2015. Sequels, by their nature, rarely match the success of their …
Ant-Man and the Wasp, Darkest Minds, Night School and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin

It's another pretty good week from the rating board, as they toe the line and give me three decent updates. Following the huge success of both Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War - I have a feeling Ant-Man and the Wasp is going to be a more traditional Marvel film - it will still make boatloads of money, just not astronomical boatloads of money - plus, it looks like a lot of fun. The other …

FROM THE BIG SCREEN:
The one-liners fly as fast as political fortunes fall in the wickedly irreverent satire "The Death of Stalin." Moscow, 1953: When tyrannical dictator Joseph Stalin drops dead, his parasitic cronies square off in a frantic power struggle to be the next Soviet leader. Among the contenders are the dweeby Georgy Malenkov (Jeffrey Tambor), the wily Nikita Khrushchev (Steve …
Weekend Box Office: Incredibles 2 Sets Animation Record, Tag Decent, SuperFly Falls Flat
Chris Kavan - wrote on 06/17/18 at 07:42 PM CT
It was a fantastic weekend at the box office, with the Incredibles 2 pulling off a huge win while a lot of holdovers held strong. It was a decent showing for the R-rated Tag but the same couldn't be said for SuperFly, which landed outside the top five. Still, with the impressive debut the box office is primed for an impressive summer, seeing as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is just around the …
New in Theaters June 15: Incredibles 2, Tag, SuperFly

It has been a long time since we've had an animated film atop the box office, but it looks like that streak is coming to an end. I, for one, am a huge fan of the original Incredibles, thanks to Brad Bird's direction, the slightly subversive story and the spot-on vocal cast that was assembled. Now we're getting a sequel and I have a feeling it's going to be just as good (if not better) than the …
Peppermint, Madea Family Funeral, Wonder Park and More in This Week's MPAA Ratings Bulletin
Chris Kavan - wrote on 06/13/18 at 09:19 AM CT
The Ratings Board is getting back into their regular groove - a few decent ratings here and there, that ole one-two (or in this case three) punch. For this week we have Jennifer Garner getting back into her kick-ass roots, Tyler Perry with the Madea gift that keeps on giving and a far-future animated film about a park... a wonder park. So, yay, I guess - as long as I have something to talk …

FROM THE BIG SCREEN:
A romantic comedy long overdue, "Love, Simon" is a relatable and heartfelt coming-of-age film about 17-year-old Simon, a gay teenager who hasn't come out yet, and doesn't know the identity of the anonymous classmate he's fallen for online. Well directed and acted and a sleeper hit this spring. From the producers of "The Fault in Our Stars." Stars Nick Robinson, Jennifer …
Weekend Box Office: Ocean's 8 Steals the Show, Hereditary Opens Strong
Chris Kavan - wrote on 06/10/18 at 07:44 PM CT
It was a good weekend for (most of) the new movies opening over the weekend. Oceans 8 easily took the box office crown as the all-female heist restored faith in the whole gender-swapping updates. Meanwhile, the horror film Hereditary gave A24 a new opening weekend record while the only real loser was Hotel Artemis, which fell well outside the top five. It was also a good international weekend …
New in Theaters June 8: Ocean's 8, Hereditary, Hotel Artemis

While Solo was expected to cruise to the end of the month until it faced off against Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the Star Wars film has failed to ignite the box office, leading things wide open. That mean's good news for the female-driven heist film Ocean's 8 as well as the action-packed Hotel Artemis. But it's really the third film this week that has me pumped - Hereditary, being touted as …
