This is your basic Whoopi Goldberg comedy. She plays a hooker who has to pretend to be a nun, with the standard "fish-out-of-water" hijinks associated.

Dumb and formulaic comedy in which trashy Whoopi Goldberg and a bunch of nuns teach each other life lessons. It couldn't be more predictable if it tried.

Whoopi Goldberg plays Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge singer in Reno whose boyfriend (Harvey Keitel), is involved in a mob. When Deloris witnesses him killing an associate, she bolts to the police to report the crime. Lt. Eddie Souther (played by Bill Nunn) decides to put Deloris in the Witness Protection Program, by having her hide out as a nun in the convent, until the time comes for her to testify against her boyfriend. There are many hilarious moments as Goldberg tries to adjust to her new settings and becomes Sister Mary Clarence. She meets up with strict Conservative Maggie Smith as the head nun who insists that if she must hide, she must also adopt their sacred ways also. The two clash as Sister Clarence breathes new life into the convent by taking over the chorus and really …
